CFE

This class fulfills part of your English graduation requirement helping you establish a strong foundation of English skills to help you with your academics throughout the school year. We will craft essays together, analyze classic and contemporary literature and film, read, write, and respond to numerous non-fiction articles incorporating reading and writing strategies/standards necessary for  success in school, on standardized exams, and ultimately help you feel confident in the skills you have already acquired, and gain new skills to help you with your academic goals. It is my hope that this class helps prepare you for success in the current school year , and as 21st century learners, and preparing you for your future pursuits as life-long learners in our global society.

Course Description/SCCC:  
This course explores principles of rhetoric and stresses effective expository writing. Primarily English 101 is a course in organization of ideas and development of these ideas through use of specific information. We also deal with matters of style, sentence structure, paragraph development, punctuation and vocabulary. Students are introduced to close reading of appropriate materials. By placement. To be taken prior to higher-numbered courses.

Course Description/Hauppauge SD: 
This course is designed to prepare you for the English and humanities courses you will experience at the university level, relying heavily on analysis, critical thinking, and reflective inquiry.  A writing intensive course with frequent written assignments (essays, journal responses, other modes of writing, including creative, narrative, persuasive, and expository), this course explores principles of composition for a variety of academic writing purposes, focusing on effective rhetorical and persuasive expository writing.   It is designed to develop the organization of ideas, close reading analysis, and critical thinking, preparing students for the type of academic thinking and writing necessary for success in a variety of academic disciplines.  Students are introduced to close reading and analysis through selected texts and frequent written assignments.
